CCLI, copyright and licensing

What is CCLI?

CCLI stands for Christian Copyright Licensing International. This company provides a license called the Church Copyright License. The Church Copyright License is a contractual agreement with songwriters and publishers from around the world. For an annual license fee, a church receives legal authorization to copy from over 200,000 songs for congregational use.

How can I use my CCLI license number with the SongBook?

To add your CCLI license number to the SongBook, click on the CCLI Settings link in the SongBook. Enter your CCLI license number, and click Save CCLI settings.

Once you have entered your CCLI license number, it will appear in the copyright portion of any chord charts and song sheets you create within the SongBook.

Is a CCLI license required to use the SongBook?

In order to upload, download, print, and duplicate copyrighted songs, you must have a license from the copyright holder. Gospel Software does not include any form of copyright licensing and is not responsible for any misuse on your part. Sharing chord charts or lyrics that you do not have licenses for is illegal.

The most common way churches obtain a license to duplicate lyrics and chord charts is through CCLI’s Church Copyright License. The CCLI license covers the duplication of lyrics and chord charts for most worship songs, for use in congregational singing. We do not require you to have a CCLI license, but it is recommended.

Chord charts from several albums are available to import into your SongBook, courtesy of Sovereign Grace Music. A CCLI license number must be provided before these songs can be used.

What does a CCLI license allow our church to do?

See the CCLI website for more information.

Can I attach MP3 files to songs?

Gospel Software does not include any form of copyright licensing and is not responsible for any misuse on your part. Uploading recordings you do not have licenses for is illegal. If you own all the copyrights to a song, or have obtained the proper licenses independently, you are free to do so.

See the CCLI website for more information.

Can I attach sheet music or choral arrangements to songs?

You can only attach copyrighted sheet music or choral arrangements if you have obtained the appropriate licenses or permission for that material. This is not covered under the CCLI license.

See the CCLI website for more information.
